The ideal format for your business card or visiting card
Business cards do not have a standardized format. However, the cheque card size has become established because this can be carried most comfortably and many storage aids have been designed for this format. Whether it is printed on from top to bottom or crossways is a matter of taste.

Types of paper used for your business card or visiting card
The type of paper used is also a matter of taste. In this respect, the print on natural forms of paper with a rough surface often looks qualitatively poorer than the print on pure white, smooth business cards. The weight of the paper typically varies between 150 and 300 g/m². One should at all costs avoid lamination because the recipient cannot then make any notes on the rear side of the business card. It is easy to comply with these principles. Many people are confronted with unexpected difficulties where the design is concerned. How much information can, and how much information must, be included on the business card?
The business card as advertising material?
The question of whether advertising slogans belong on a business card is a controversial one. If the slogan explains the corporate purpose, it must be important. However, the following applies as a rule: those who restrict themselves to the most necessary information often have the better luck. In the text, the purpose plays a role. While the logo, the name of the person presenting the card and the contact information suffice in business, it is beneficial for the Chinese restaurant around the corner to include details of the delivery service or the happy hour on the business card.
Country-specific characteristics for your business card and visiting card
Naturally, in large companies the design is largely prescribed, only the small details and country-specific characteristics can be individually harmonized. In this respect, one should avoid a mishmash of languages. If you are only dealing with English partners, the business card should be in English. A bilingual business card is sensible for people who often have to do business abroad. When the business card is being handed over, the side with what for us is the foreign language text should face upwards.
In the Asian area, business cards are gladly and often exchanged. Not having one is almost considered to be a faux pas. A special rule applying in Japan must be taken into consideration: younger employees or employees lower down in the hierarchy start by handing over what is known as the "meishi". Meishis are handed over and received with both hands, and the partners bow in order to show respect. One receives plus points if one reads the whole meishi immediately after receiving it.
